My name is Silvia Breunig and I have a small Kennel, located in Grand River, Nova Scotia, on the beautiful Cape Breton Island. The place is excellent for my dogs they are happy here.
I am devoted to the Irish Setters for almost 30 years and I love this noble breed. Coming from Germany to Canada in 2000 my companion Jana was 9 years already (she died with almost 17 years of age).
Finding the 'right line' was a very hard task. Finally I imported my foundation bitch, Velvet vom Gebirgsjägerhof, from Europe.
In 2005 I find luckily Vicky and Patrick Hunt (they are breeder of the Fairline Irish Setters). The first breeding was Can.Ch. Fairline Kincaid to Velvet vom Gebirgsjägerhof and out of my first litter I kept Allmeek Aya. Meanwhile I have my own Irish Setter crew.
I strongly believe in breeding for HEALTHY and sound dogs, mellow temperament, intelligence and last but not least - Beauty!
My dogs have their origins in top German and English hunting and show lines with solid pedigrees. This result in a shorter coat (less maintenance) and a shiny deep mahogany colour. One of the most liked characteristics is their very mellow temperament which makes them easy trainable and good family pets.
I have and see dogs first and foremost as my friends, and I do everything to treat them as such. It is possible to have a deep relationship with a dog - based on mutual respect and trust! To achieve a relationship like this all my dogs are trained and educated as living creatures with their own mind in respect. Therefore, the puppies are raised in a family environment where confidence building and plenty of socializing is the main goal, supported by lots and lots of fun and play. After all the puppies will be placed with care in approved homes.
I have also have a critical view on vaccination protocols, since newer studies have shown that a lot of the "modern illnesses", in dogs and humans alike, are triggered by a too thoughtless use of vaccines. I also promote a holistic approach to PREVENT health problems which focuses on the body, mind and spirit of the dog, the environment and last but not least medicine and nutrition.
When it comes to my breeding program, there are no compromises. If a dog or bitch does not pass ALL health tests then it will NOT be bred.
And the kennel name?
Well, it was inspired by the temper of the foundation bitch Velvet -- all meek!
